I Screamo No Emo!

OK, if you haven't noticed the I Screamo No Emo pool on Flickr, I highly recommend a look. It's both hilarious, and faintly disturbing. It seems to have been a challenge that was set a while ago for people to do a week of 'I Screamo No Emo' self-portraits. And here were the rules:

THERE MUST BE NO:
1. looking at feet or the ground
2. being thoughtful
3. looking "cute"
4. cropped heads
5. tidying up your picture-taking space
6. trying hard to fit the "myspace profile picture" guidelines.
7. pigeon toes (we're talkin' faux-toes, not the real kind).
8. jazz hands

And this is where the disturbing part comes in, as I started thinking about the pictures I have taken of myself when showing off my various creations. Let's take a little walk down memory lane...

Oh boy, not off to a good start are we? Cutesy, thoughtful AND looking at the ground. EEEEKKK!

Hhhhmmmm, and here we have some pigeon toes....Kinda cutesy shot too.

Looking thoughtful here.... There's also a bit of head-cropping going on.

But most disturbing of all...

Looking at feet, looking thoughtful, pigeon toes...and gloomy grey/purples tones to boot. I actually made an Emo collage!

OH MY GOD, I AM REALLY AN EMO!!!!!!!!!

OK, just to clarify - I really don't have anything against Emos. In fact, I went through my own little Goth period at Uni (yes, when Emos were still just goths...am I showing my age?). But hey, I'm a 35 year old mum. I can't be an Emo!!!!

So to show off my latest creations in a NON-EMO way. Here ya go!

Can you tell I'm crying on the inside...just a little bit...hehehe.

haha, you have put a smile on my face with that last group of photos, just seemed so out of left field compared to the others... it was great!

Brilliant!

These made me laugh out loud, particularly because I know that, while you have challenges in life like the rest of us, you are the most un-emo-like person I know!

Those other images are more a reflection of how seriously you take your craft, not your inner goth/emo... Creativity is no laughing matter! (just kidding)

And I loved the last set of pics. So full of life.

Classic Bec post.

Absolute Classic Bec :)

FWIW I too remember the days of Goths and had to have my teenage niece diligently explain to me what the heck an emo actually was :D

Happy Tuesday to you...now I want to see your husband's matching gray dress or did he manage a gray shirt and slacks?!?!?

Thanks for an early morning smile with the fun mosaic.

Very Funny. When my neighbour moved in last year (he's in his mid 20s) I wanted to ask why he was dressed exactly like my friend Tom dressed at uni 15 years ago. But I didn't. That would have been really showing my age...:)

thank you Bec, you made me smile with those last pics (very brave too, by the way, I much prefer the 'emo' pics, myself!) and I much prefer the word 'goth' too - it's something I understand!!

Bec, next time we meet you will have to take me aside and explain what the heck an Emo is! Yes I know, I know - I must have come across with the First Fleet.

But I LOVE the pictures.

Brilliant! A great post. I've been away for the whole Emo thing (they came about after I left the country), but have to confess to being a uni goth (same age as you I see).

I just love your collection of photos - definately lots of cutesy in some of the earlier ones, the last lot a great!

This was such a fun post! Love all your emo & non-emo pics! Even emo has changed from what it meant years ago. I can't keep up with all the crazy kids & their wacky sub-culture groups anymore. Emo shmeemo! I have to confess to also having gone through a goth period. I still have all the sad-sack music from that phase in my CD collection. Eeeek! Your last photos are my faves :)

hehehe, that's hilarious! What a way to find out you've been totally emo all this time. Now you'll have to grow a long fringe and peep out from under it... only ever at your feet of course, and in nothing but a thoughtful fashion ;)

p.s. I think you may be able to add "jazz hands" to the list for that first photo! hehehehe

pps. Now I'm off to study and find out if I'm emo or not now too.

Fantastic. While I like your other photos, your anti-emo ones were really great, and brought a great big smile to my face too.

And how cool is your bmx t-shirt with your lovely aprons from the other post?
